Welcome to our blog discussion of Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities. When Jonathan Safran Foer was featured in The New Yorker's 20 Under 40 issue (looking at 20 authors under 40 years of age), he was interviewed and asked the following question: "What was the first piece of fiction you read that had an impact on you?" He responded with Invisible Cities. Calvino's book is also one of the four books JSF recommended we read in Symposium alongside his work. I hope you use this blog as a way to connect with each other this summer and to carry on an engaging conversation about this summer reading book. The book is strange and genre-bending and philosophical and poetic and, at times, difficult. That's why it is so important that you use this blog to talk to each other about what fascinates you, confounds you, tickles you, impacts you as you read. Please do not leave your summer reading until the very end of the summer, as it will mean that you will have lots of posts to read and catch up on. Make sure that you read previous posts before posting your own, and whenever you want to respond to another person's post, simply fill in the comment box below the post to create a thread. I will be posting as well but would like you to take the initiative to bring up ideas, questions, and connections that you have as you read to get discussions going. Remember that you are talking to each other, not just to me.
